This is one head-ace that everyone loves but seems so difficult for so many to get their head around... Here are some nice examples that can hopefully inspire you. I am myself making one at the moment that will be a black frame with black and white photographs... I am sooo looking forward to seeing the results.

One good rule to follow is to start in the middle... and organise your frames from there... whether that is in a straight line or not, you don't want to end up with a strange gap in the middle.

Hope this gives you some inspiration... When I finish (start) my wall I will post the results ;)

What is in and what is out in 2018?

I love pouring over the latest décor trends. I know it is easy to buy into buzzy choices that made you cringe a few years later. So how do you avoid dropping serious cash on the next sponge painted wall or worse, avocado appliance? A safe choice is to just go for a classic home with timeless classy design... like my endless love with scandinavian style that seams to never fall off track. But for those who want to pop it up, make your home more trendy and joyful with a strong character. Here I take together the best decorating trends worth trying in 2018 to help you choose the good from the bad and future-proof your décor.

IN DOUBT? You can book a free hour online with an architect HERE I am happy to give you an advise and help you to make your house your dream sanctuary.

1. STRONG COLOUR PIGMENTS

We are looking at a lot more colours... darker wood... and even a little sixties influence.

Above: Pantone Ultra Violet

Vintage look in blend with very modern. Beautiful materials, velvet and stone with meta.

2. METALIC ACCENT

3. DARK WOOD

Dark wood is in... has been for a while but in 2018 it is coming even stronger than before supposedly as a consequence from these strong pigmented colours, dark wood just blends better in a more soothing way and then popped with some metallic accent.

3. TROPICAL PRINTS and tiling patterns

We were already seeing this a little in 2017, prints all over... the prediction is that 2018 will have its focus on tropical prints and natural colours. Again popped with metallic accent.

And on we go with beautiful tropical patterns and metallic pop

We see it more and more amazing tiles will pop up the room incredibly... don't be afraid to try.

Decorated furniture fronts or cabinet doors with elaborate carvings, laser treatments, glass, with stone decors or prints and varnishes. This is by KARE.

4. popped Kitchen

Last but not least I am going to mention the kitchen... but that could be a post by it self but just to say that also in the kitchen trends there will be a introduction to a more vibrant colours with metallic influence together with real materials... stone, marble etc. with that it can not go wrong.

Again in 2018 kitchen trends we see the same combination of materials. Strong pigments together with natural materials wood and stone popped with metal. This time it is gold stronger than ever... we have been seeing this golden touch lately but also copper was very strong in 2016 and 2017 but 2018 gold will take over

If you are refurbishing you home or just want to do a touch up... use this as a guide but remember... what ever you do... what colours and which materials you choose.... as long as it is in harmony with the style of your home it is going to look great.

“I AM NOT LIGHT, I am heavy”

Högna Sigurðardóttir (6 July 1929 - 10 February 2017) was a leading Icelandic architect. She was the first woman to design a house in Iceland. She spent most of her professional career in France.

Högna is one of my biggest idols in architecture, not only because of her great architecture...but also for who she was and still is in minds of people, as a strong powerful woman that went for her dreams. A true pioneer of her time. “I AM NOT LIGHT, I am heavy” were here illuminating words.

THIS HOUSE on Bakkaflöt Hafsteinshús, or the house of Hafsteinn, (1965–68), which has been praised as one of the hundred most remarkable buildings of the twentieth century in World Architecture: a Critical Mosaic, is a fine example of Högna’s approach, where landscape, form, and space are merged into a whole, with reference to ancient Icelandic building heritage as well as to contemporary use of concrete and other Brutalist features of modernism.

Bakkaflöt is thrust into a manmade grass-covered hill with only the edge of its flat roof visible.

The interior layout revolves around a central living room with a massive fireplace beneath a skylight, which provides the seemingly closed building with generous light inside.

Beautiful how Högna organically molds the space both horizontally and vertically. From the sleeping rooms, reading nooks, and other intimate spaces sprout from the center with floor-to-ceiling gliding doors. The levels of the floors and ceilings are deliberately raised or lowered to define smaller rooms within the open space.

Materials are restricted to untreated raw concrete, elegantly crafted hardwood, and a bit of leather, with most of the furniture (sofas, benches, tables, bathtubs, and even the beds) cast in concrete, making them part of a coherent whole with the visible main structure of the house.

The sleeping rooms are relatively small as where were six children in the family when Högna designed the house but the have sliding walls that allows the space to open up and to be used for other means. Great idea and concept still today.

It is obvious that the she was inspired by the look of a traditional Icelandic turf house

Högna's designs were and are still to this day seen as very modern and bold.
